Kayla Wright OT 640 Fieldwork Debriefing

  1. Kayla,

It sounds like you had a great last level 1 rotation! I am so glad you were able to see many different types of care and treatment sessions to really expand your OT knowledge and clinical reasoning skills. I appreciated you mentioning that your FWE used obstacle courses to assess clients' abilities in the home environment. I feel as if this is a client centered tool as you can grade it up and down to meet their individual needs, yet still a fun way to assess someone's safety within their context!

I think it is also very helpful to have had a FWE who was very trustful in your abilities. Not only did this create a brand new learning environment for you, but it also created a new self-confidence in yourself that I can see through your explanations of the facility. In mentioning your thorn, I unfortunately have this same worry. My FWE was actually laid off during this rotation and it caused high stress and worry for me in many ways. After speaking with our AFWC in depth about this situation, I realize the importance of our Health Management course we will be taking this fall semester. I hope to discuss my experience with the class to help stress this importance.

Congratulations on a job well done! Enjoy your summer break!
